VAT in the UAE

Published on December 2, 2022

With a few exceptions, UAE Free Zone Companies Are Generally Subject to VAT Liability.
Businesses within the designated zone have similar rules to non-designated zones. According to the UAE VAT Law, free zone companies must undergo VAT registration.

They are also eligible to register under the group VAT system. As per the VAT implementation rule, the transfer of goods within these designated zones is tax-free.

Free zone firms are only subject to VAT if they transact business with UAE Mainland, even though all businesses in the United Arab Emirates are regarded as UAE resident enterprises, including free zone businesses. Companies based offshore are exempt.
The free zones offer companies many advantages including a tax-free environment and 100 percent foreign ownership.
